Nearly twenty-five thousand households in south-east Queensland were left without power on Monday morning after powerful weather events passed over the area, generating powerful gusts hitting 109 kilometers per hour.

Massive Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Homeowners reported giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in some areas. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across Queensland had been impacted by substantial ice precipitation.

Response teams were working to restore energy supply throughout the affected regions, with approximately seventy teams activated to address the extensive power failures.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, nearly 1,000 households in Victoria also encountered electricity disruptions after the metropolitan area saw its heaviest rainfall in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services responded to 598 requests for assistance across the region, mainly for property damage but also for collapsed vegetation and flooding.

• Hoppers Crossing suburb - multiple assistance requests
• Wyndham region - nearly 180 help reports

At the height on the previous day, over 28k energy customers in the state were without power.

Weather Forecast

Moist weather were forecast to persist along significant areas of eastern Queensland this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was expected to become the most rainy day, with ongoing storm activity predicted across different parts of both regions.

Health Warning

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of thunderstorm-induced asthma across the state's northern country region, particularly given the existing atmospheric conditions.
