Christantus Uche Fuels Dominant Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without key players like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a spot in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
A further victory in their next fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure direct passage to the knockout stages, particularly following a previous setback against Strasbourg.
Squad Members Seize the Moment
This match offered a chance for several Palace's fringe players to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a clinical goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive succession.
A Shelbourne team that had finished their league season proved outmatched even for a largely rotated Palace lineup. The visitors were further weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.
Control Established from the Start
Despite torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A flowing move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, let Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple tap-in.
Midfielder Adam Wharton went close minutes later, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the protests.
The formerArsenal striker didn't need to wait long to get his goal, tapping home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.
Shelbourne were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to avoid a booking for a couple of agricultural challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner took the chance to rest key individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring with his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one shot strike off each posts before being gathered on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late knock to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect evening for the visiting side.
